Understanding Behavioral Health & Coping Skills

Jasaantua Harding, MBA, MS, RT, RBT

Behavioral health is an important part of overall wellness. It includes how we think, feel, and respond to stress, daily challenges, and life changes. Everyone experiences tough moments, and taking care of your mental and emotional health is just as important as caring for your body.

Coping skills are healthy tools that help us manage stress, strong emotions, and difficult situations. They don’t make problems disappear but they can help you feel more in control and better able to handle what comes your way. Coping skills look different for everyone and may change over time.

Some helpful coping strategies include taking slow, deep breaths, staying physically active, talking with someone you trust, writing down your thoughts, practicing gratitude, or taking short breaks when things feel overwhelming. Even small steps can make a big difference.

If stress, worry, or emotional struggles are interfering with your daily life, you are not alone—and support is available. Behavioral health care provides a safe space to learn coping skills, build resilience, and work toward feeling your best. Taking care of your mental health is a sign of strength, and help is always within reach.

At Christ Community Health Services, we care for the whole person. Our Behavioral Health Counselors are here to support you through stress, anxiety, and everyday challenges. You do not have to face it alone.
