Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, are traumatic events that occur in childhood and can impact mental, emotional, and physical health for years to come. These experiences include abuse, neglect, parental mental illness, substance use, divorce, or domestic violence.
When children face trauma, their bodies can remain in a constant state of stress. Over time, this “toxic stress” affects how the brain and body develop, leading to challenges with learning, relationships, and overall well-being.
The good news is that healing is possible. Through therapy, children and families can learn to manage stress, process difficult experiences, and build healthy coping skills. Therapy also helps parents create safe, supportive environments that nurture healing and growth.
If you or your child have experienced trauma, you are not alone. Help and hope are available.
