National Women’s Health Month: Prioritizing Preventive Care

Christ Community Health Center

May is National Women’s Health Month, a time to encourage women to make their health a priority and stay up to date on important preventive screenings.

Many serious health conditions can be treated more successfully when found early. Routine checkups and screenings play a major role in protecting long-term health and helping women stay healthy for themselves and their families.

Preventive screenings such as Pap smears, mammograms, and colonoscopies are important tools that help detect health concerns before symptoms begin.

Why Preventive Screenings Matter

Pap Smears

Pap smears help screen for cervical cancer and identify abnormal cell changes early. Regular screenings are an important part of women’s preventive healthcare and can help save lives through early detection and treatment.

Mammograms

Mammograms are one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early, often before it can be felt. Early detection increases treatment options and improves outcomes.

Colonoscopies

Colonoscopies help detect colon cancer and can identify precancerous polyps before they become dangerous. Screening recommendations vary based on age, family history, and risk factors, so it is important to speak with your provider about when to begin screening.
